At a time when the talk is of identity and community, faith and social cohesion, conflict and peace building, are people of faith part of the problem or the solution?
As people of faith, we believe we have some very positive things to offer the city in the search for peace. Our sense of belonging and community identity is an important part of this, it is linked to our hopes and aspirations, how we organize as a group and how we relate to others. So, gaining a deeper understanding of our identity and other faith’s identities is a way to greater understanding of how we contribute to peacemaking.
Take the opportunity to hear from Professor Sebastian Kim speaking on this topic at the Annual BCDD Lecture:
Community Identity and Peacemaking: Meaningful Engagement of Religious Communities in Contemporary Society
Monday 10th March, 6.30pm
John Stanley Bell Lecture Theatre, University of Bradford
In this lecture Professor Kim will draw on recently published research on identity and faith communities. He will describe the ways different faith communities interact with each other and wider society, and identify ways to build peace.
Professor Sebastian Kim is the first Professor of Theology at Yorkshire’s newest university, York St John University.
